Essay 2: Visionary decision-making happens at the intersection of intution and logic
Decision-making is a continuous process in human life, it is wisely said that " we are the product of decisions that we take every instance", some decisions have an immediate impact while some decisions are so crucial in life that can make or break human life.
The decision that an individual takes in one's life to improve and manage his day-to-day chores effectively, could also have an ability to make visionary decisions. The process of visionary decision-making requires a person to visualise the future and see the impact on different segments of life, society and overall living beings. Intuition is the ability of an individual to predict an event to happen because of past knowledge and experience that get settled in one's subconscious mind and play an important role in effective long-term decision-making. The intuition backed by correct logic which is a sequential process to complete a target plays a significant part in visionary decision making. Since time immemorial dynasties have flourished or demolished due to the decisions that the rulers took.
In India, there have been many documented stories of past dynasties that flourished due to the decisions which have future prospects taken by the rulers. They were backed by many experienced and knowledgeable personalities.
During the Mauryan empire, Chanakya was an important figure in the making of Chandragupta Maurya. It is documented in Mudrarakshas written by Visakhdutta how Chanakya through his right intuition and logic made a visionary decision to select a small kid and with patience and the right approach trained him to make Chandragupta, who challenged the mighty empire of Nanda. The Nanda dynasty was so strong that even the world conqueror Alexander did not dare challenge him directly, but this empire was taken down by the right decision that Chanakya took at a very early stage by training Chandragupta.
Even during the Gupta period, the establishment of Nalanda University by Kumar Gupta created the oldest institution that provided scholars to the world, who in turn shaped the thinking process of the world community. On the contrary, the decision to ruin the university by Bakhtiyar Khilji resulted in the degradation of this region. Recently government of India with 17 other nations wherever the propagators of knowledge studied from Nalanda like Hieun Zang Fa-hiyan came from had come together to revive this university. Therefore the establishment of the institution or positive change requires effort and long-term vision with the right intuition and logic, while impulsive action has an immediate impact which either can destroy a legacy or give temporary relief.
In the world community, international relations are saved by the policy of "interest of our country", hence every country predicts the future prospects of another country in terms of economic growth, raw materials, political stability and multiple other aspects. Therefore every country takes visionary decisions that happen at the intersection of intuition and logic.
In India, every institution makes decisions by considering future prospects, social norms, and other aspects into consideration. For instance, the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) decides the interest rate after considering inflation. In turn, they considered the monsoon pattern, because as crops' success or failure depends upon the normal monsoon, they, in turn, considered the IMD prediction to determine if the year is El Nino or not. Therefore while making any visionary decision that has a wider impact on the economy, the right mind with the right intuition and logic must be placed in the right place. Now the question is how a right mind with the right logic and intuition is formed?
The formation of logic, intuition, morals, values, and other aspects of human life forms with the formation of the brain, it is said that 90% of the human brain is developed between zero to five years of age. At such an early stage family plays a very important role in the formation of the foundational value system of a child. A child starts replicating how his father or mother is behaving in the early stages of his life.
In a child, good or bad habits are seeded at a very early stage during his school days. For instance, if in a family a child is asked to plan his day at a prior stage, for example, pack his bags, polish shoes, and finish his homework a day before the school day, these small habit plays an important factor in planning and visualizing his future, gradually he starts visualizing a week ahead, then a month, a year become an independent decision maker. Gradually start making decisions for a firm or an organization, and if in the right setup he may start making decisions for a country. Therefore visionary decision-making happens at the intersection of intuition and logic.
Conclusion
Therefore it is said that the decisions in life are very important aspects of humans, some decisions may have an immediate impact, and others may take time to show results, but the decisions that take time also last long. As we see in the case of the Mauryan Empire that visionary decision was taken by Chanakya or in the case of Kumar Gupta who made Nalanda University. The right visionary decision made with the right intuition and correct logic which develops over time with experience and knowledge which are seeded at a very early stage of life through good habits has a huge possibility of growth.
